The wild yam, also known as wild yam or Dioscorea, is a twining climbing plant with heart-shaped leaves that reaches a height of up to six metres. The perennial originally comes from North and Central America, where it can be found in preferably moist locations. However, different varieties can also be found in the tropics or in Africa. In Europe, the yam, which forms a thick root tuber underground and tastes and looks similar to the sweet potato, is still relatively unknown. The useful plant is full of nutrients, including the valuable diosgenin. It also contains vitamins, cell-protecting antioxidants, potassium, zinc, manganese, copper and iron. Due to its high nutrient content, the yam is an important staple food in many countries, but is also used in traditional medicine. Women in particular are said to benefit from the effects of wild yams. Even the Native Americans used the yam root for period and labour pains and deliberately used the plant as a natural contraceptive. So it's no wonder that the yam is known as the "women's plant"! Wild yam is not only available in the form of capsules or tablets, but also in the form of gel, cream, powder and tea.

In addition to 80 mg diosgenin per portion, Wild Yam 50+ contains calcium and vitamin D. Calcium and vitamin D help to reduce bone mineral loss in postmenopausal women, as low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic fractures. Calcium and vitamin D also contribute to normal muscle function.
