Assessing the vitamin status of adolescents
An unbalanced diet dominated by convenience foods can lead to drastic obesity even in childhood. The fulfilment of micronutrient requirements also often suffers from malnutrition. According to the EsKiMo study (which analysed the nutritional and health status of children and adolescents), children between the ages of 6 and 17 do not meet their calcium, vitamin D, E and folic acid requirements. Magnesium and zinc are also often deficient according to our own studies.
This can have a negative impact not only on children's immune systems, but also on their behaviour and learning success. Hyperactivity in children is very often associated with micronutrient deficiencies.
With the help of modern laboratory parameters, the individual supply situation can be checked in a simple way. In contrast to micronutrient intake, which can only be estimated using nutritional protocols, or the classification of a micronutrient deficiency using non-specific symptoms, the results of blood analyses provide concrete values on the patient's actual supply status. If the laboratory results show an inadequate supply status, the causes for this should be sought.
