Conclusion

Potassium: What are the legal regulations and limits?

According to the LMIV(Food Information Regulation), the reference value NRV for potassium is 2,000 mg daily.

This information is from 2011 and scientifically outdated. Unfortunately, as an online shop we are bound to this value for legal reasons and have to use it.

The German Nutrition Society ( DGE) recommends a daily intake of 4,000 mg potassium for healthy adults in Germany and Austria. This value has applied since 2016.

The upper limit is the amount of a nutrient that can be consumed daily over a long period of time without harming the body.
The EFSA has not yet set a limit for the EU.
Since 2020, Switzerland has insisted on a maximum daily intake of 2,250 mg through food supplements.

When it comes to potassium, it should be noted that there are rarely any real deficiencies. It is contained in large quantities in fruit and vegetables, for example.
A potassium deficiency, in which potassium should be supplied, therefore only occurs either in the case of health extremes, which the doctor can determine in the laboratory examination, or in the case of dietary extremes, e.g. a diet with extremely little or absolutely no fruit and vegetables.
We can therefore agree with the cautious Swiss recommendation. It is best to clarify this with your doctor or have the lab report sent to you.

Potassium from Echt Vital is good and cheap. Capsules make a lot of sense, e.g. for senior citizens who pre-pack their medication in tablet organisers. Or for people who have to take something for a very long time and want to avoid the problem of developing an aversion to strong-tasting substances sooner or later.
However, if you don't care about any of this and are mentally, physically (handling very small quantities) and technically (fine scales) able to measure powder safely, loose powder is the cheapest option.
