The clear, cold waters of the Antarctic are home to krill, a small crustacean that feeds on phytoplankton. Its position at the top of the food chain minimises the risk of enrichment with dangerous pollutants. Krill is the main food of many sea creatures, especially whales and penguins. According to current knowledge, its biomass is greater than that of any other animal species on our planet. The annual catch has remained constant for years at around 0.03% of the total biomass. Only 1% of the krill caught is used for health products such as food supplements, functional foods and biological medicines.

Marine life is a rich source of valuable omega-3 fatty acids. In Antarctic krill oil, they remain bound in a biological matrix that is unique in its effectiveness. In addition to the important omega-3 fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), the oil (Pure NKO®) obtained using a patented special process also contains the red colouring agent astaxanthin, which belongs to the carotenoids and has enormous antioxidant properties.

Due to the gentle cold extraction process, the omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin in NKO® Krill Oil remain bound to phospholipids in the same way as they are naturally present in krill, which favours their absorption by the body. Krill oil is also rich in phosphatidylcholine, a phospholipid that provides choline, an essential building block of the brain's messenger substances. Important health information

Please note when taking medication to inhibit blood clotting: Omega-3 fatty acids generally have a blood-thinning effect, one of their major health benefits. People who are taking blood-thinning or anticoagulant medication as prescribed by a doctor should bear this in mind, as the addition of the thinning effects of omega-3 fatty acids and the medication may result in excessive blood clotting inhibition. Therefore, the regular intake of omega-3 NKO should be discussed with the doctor, who may need to adjust the dosage of the medication.
