L-carnitine is a compound of the two amino acids methionine and lysine and is primarily responsible for converting fat into energy. It supports the transport of long-chain fatty acids in the body.
It also transports toxic compounds out of the mitochondria to prevent excessive accumulation.
In order to synthesise L-carnitine efficiently, a sufficient amount of vitamin C must be available to the body.
