Every day 50+ multivitamins, 60 tablets

Every day 50+ especially for men and women over 50

The body's nutritional requirements change with age. This reduces the need for iron and copper. This is why Jeden Tag 50+ contains neither iron nor copper. It is important for men and women of this age to take additional vitamin B12 and sufficient folic acid (folate) to support mental functions and memory, among other things. Larger amounts of vitamin K2 and D3 are also important for this age group.

B vitamins in the ideal form and dosage

Every day 50+ provides 150 μg of vitamin B12 in the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. These are of much better quality than the usual cheap cyanocobalamin

It also contains 300 μg of active folic acid in the best form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate. Around 50% of people cannot utilise the simple folic acid contained in many food supplements and medicines because their metabolism cannot convert it into the active folic acid that the body needs. 5MTHF has already been converted and can also be utilised by these people without any problems.

High doses of vitamin D3 and K2

The calcium is positioned in the right place in the bones thanks to the effect of vitamin K. This is particularly important for this age group. Every day 50+ provides 45 μg K1 (phytomenadione) and at least 90 μg vitamin K2. Vitamin D is also important for bones, but its spectrum of action is much broader: among other things, it also has positive effects on resistance, muscle function and normal cell division. One tablet therefore contains a high dose of 35 μg vitamin D3, as vitamin D is very important and has numerous positive properties.

Promotion of eye health and special additives

Jeden Tag 50+ also contains vitamins A and B2 as well as zinc, which all contribute to the maintenance of vision. The amounts of lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are also higher than in other products. Finally, the special substances Q10, alpha-lipoic acid, pterostilbene and PQQ have been added.

B vitamins in the best possible form and with the ideal dosage

The Every Day Multis contain a large amount of B vitamins, but in an acceptable dosage. The daily requirement, the average intake levels and their lower limits have been analysed in detail. Not only are the latest scientific findings and the safe upper limits taken into account, but also the body's ability to metabolise the various B vitamins. In addition, all formulas include the biologically active forms of vitamins B2 (riboflavin 5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal 5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt). These are the forms utilised by the body and research shows that they have a higher bioavailability in the body.

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate as a form of vitamin B6

Occasionally, tingling or numbness in the hands or feet can occur when very high amounts of vitamin B6 are taken. For this reason, the maximum safe daily dose for vitamin supplements in the Netherlands is 21 mg for adults. The daily multis are much lower (maximum 4.2 mg). In addition, only the biologically active form of vitamin B6, pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5'-P), is used instead of pyridoxine HCl, which still needs to be converted in the body. It is currently being investigated whether the occasional side effects mentioned above only occur with vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine HCl and not, or to a lesser extent, with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. Evidence suggests that only pyridoxine HCl is toxic to nerve cells in high doses.

Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate

Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is often used in food supplements for reasons of stability, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. Folic acid that is ingested via food supplements must be converted in the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Studies show that this complicated conversion process is far from optimal in a considerable number of people. Adding 5-MTHF eliminates this problem.
Jeden Tag Multis utilise the superior form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate bound to glucosamine salt (under the brand name Quatrefolic®). Thanks to this binding with glucosamine salt (of plant origin), the biologically active form can be kept stable and optimum absorption is ensured. Studies show that Quatrefolic® is characterised by higher water solubility, stability and bioavailability. In addition, 5-MTHF can cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike the "normal" (synthetic) form of folic acid.

Vitamin B12 in the form of adenosyl- and methylcobalamin

The process of absorbing vitamin B12 from food is complicated. There is also evidence that the NRV (formerly RDA) of 2.5 µg per day was set too low and that the requirement can vary in healthy adults and older people and can rise above 20 µg per day. To ensure the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation and to take into account the fact that the absorption of B12 from food and supplements is not always easy, the Every Day Multis contain higher doses of the biologically active forms methyl- and adenosylcobalamin.

Cyanocobalamin, an inexpensive synthetic variant of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and has to be converted into active forms by the body, is a component of many other B12 products and multivitamins. The cyanide portion of the cobalamin (B12) is separated, which subsequently requires the body to break it down. According to studies, the bioavailability of vitamin B12 as methyl- and adenosylcobalamin is higher than that of cyanocobalamin.

Plant sources rich in vitamin D

In recent years, European government authorities have come to the conclusion that the value for adequate vitamin D intake from food (15 µg) should be set higher and that the maximum permitted dose (100 µg) could be increased. In the Netherlands, caution still prevails and it is said that 10 µg would be sufficient and the upper limit should be 75 µg. Curiously, the NRV (or RDA) remains at 5 µg. However, in the orthomolecular world, the importance of higher doses has been recognised for some time. It is recommended by leading experts in vitamin D that calcidiol levels in adults should be at least 75 nmol/litre. To maintain such a level of vitamin D in the blood, a daily oral dose of 25-75 µg vitamin D3 is required. The Every Day Multis contain high amounts of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). In terms of increasing vitamin D levels, this form is far more effective than vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). The new Jeden Tag Multis also contain plant-based vitamin D3 (vitamin D3V®). The reason for this is that it is algae-based and not produced from sheep's wool fat (like most other vitamin D3 products). This means that all multis from the Jeden Tag range are also suitable for vegans.

Vitamin K1 and K2

The Jeden Tag multivitamins now contain a small amount of vitamin K1 and an increased amount of vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is primarily absorbed by the liver and is mainly responsible for activating coagulation factors. In contrast, vitamin K2 has a higher bioavailability, is distributed much more in the body tissue and therefore activates other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP more effectively. Among other things, they ensure that the calcium is absorbed correctly and ends up where it belongs: in the bones.
For blood clotting, which is essential for survival, the body first uses vitamin K. Vitamin K2 is a raw material whose price is significantly higher than that of vitamin K1, so a small amount of K1 is added to the multis to ensure that it is used for the primary blood clotting function, while K2 is used for the other equally important functions.
Incidentally, the NRV for vitamin K, which has been regularly set, is based on the amount required for normal blood clotting. It is strange that the optimal dosage of vitamin K for other body processes that depend on vitamin K has not been considered.

Stability of vitamin K2

It seems that vitamin K2 is a very sensitive substance. The content of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule decreases rapidly, especially in combination with calcium and/or magnesium. Technically, it is a real challenge to use vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and/or magnesium. That's why Vitals uses a K2 supplement branded K2Vital® Delta, which is stable even in a formula with many of these minerals. A patented microencapsulation process is used to protect the fat-soluble K2 particles with two layers to prevent reactions with other ingredients. Vitals had the stability of K2Vital® Delta tested by an independent laboratory and it proved to be the best product. A comparison was made with other brands of vitamin K2, especially in combination with the ingredients of Vitals products. It was concluded that the protection of K2 is mandatory, that the K2 content of K2Vital® Delta remained constant and that it was superior to the other K2 ingredients.

Natural calcium and magnesium from the sea

The Aquamin® brand calcium and magnesium supplements, which are extracted from the sea, are now used for the multis. The tablets thus achieve significantly higher doses than the previously used compound forms, whereby the absorption of these ingredients is demonstrably good.
The magnesium (Aquamin Magnesium) comes from the seawater of the Irish Sea and studies confirm its good bioavailability. In addition to around 35% elemental magnesium, the raw material also contains small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.
The calcium (Aquamin Calcium) is extracted from the red algae Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. It naturally has a beautiful red or pink hue, but when it dies it calcifies and takes on a white or light grey colour. Only calcified red algae from the waters along the Icelandic coast are harvested. In addition to a calcium content of 32%, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.
Perhaps the synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium is one explanation for the improved absorption and the impressive studies that have been carried out with it.

Zinc and manganese in the form of amino acid chelate (bisglycinate)

Amino acid chelates (bisglycinates) are used for the minerals zinc and manganese. Each magnesium particle is strongly bound (chelated) to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. Minerals in this compound form can easily reach the small intestine and are very well absorbed there. Vitals makes a targeted selection of amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, which can be recognised by the TRAACS® brand, which stands for "The Real Amino Acid Chelate System". This brand was created to differentiate itself from other, potentially inferior and unstable amino acid chelates. Albion holds over 100 patents worldwide that protect the process, science and structure of its amino acid chelate minerals.

Unique: relatively high choline dosage

Choline has been used more or less as a standard ingredient in multivitamin supplements for some time. But almost always in low doses (between 10 and 30 mg), as not much was known about it. But that is changing more and more! In 2012, the European Commission approved three health claims for choline, which applies to a dose of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal fat metabolism, homocysteine metabolism and liver function. In the USA, an RDA of 550 mg per day was set in 2016, based on clinical studies, with the aim of determining the daily requirement. Choline was also recognised as an essential nutrient by the EFSA in 2016, but no NRV has yet been set for it. The recommendation for adequate intake is 400 mg per day. This is based on the average intake values in European countries and not on the American study, which found a value of 550 mg per day. The average intake for European adults varies between 291 and 468 mg per day. There are plenty of reasons to include a generous dose of choline in a daily multivitamin supplement! Jeden Tag 50+ relies on choline from the VitaCholine® brand. This brand represents the highest quality and extensive research has been carried out with it.

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids. These substances are particularly highly concentrated in the body in the retina and the macula lutea ("yellow spot"). Lutein and zeaxanthin cannot be produced by the body itself; they must therefore be ingested through food. They are found in green leafy vegetables as well as in fruit and vegetables of red, yellow and orange colour. Meso-zeaxanthin is only found to a small extent in food (e.g. in shrimps, salmon skin and trout skin and meat). It is mainly formed in the retina by converting lutein through an enzymatic reaction. However, it can easily be obtained from food supplements. Meso-zeaxanthin has only recently been recognised as an excellent supplement and should be preferred to lutein and zeaxanthin alone.
