A new generation boswellia extract
The Boswellia-AF from Vitals contains the new, improved AprèsFlex®. A genuine new generation boswellia extract that has been successfully optimised in terms of bioavailability. The absorption of AprèsFlex is better, resulting in greater efficacy. In addition, the speed with which results can be achieved is remarkable. Studies show that the first results are visible after just five days.
What exactly is Boswellia?
Boswellia is the dried (gum) resin of the tropical frankincense tree Boswellia serrata. When the bark is naturally damaged or cut by humans, the resin (a syrupy liquid) is released from the trunk of the tree. Boswellia is called "gum resin" because it contains both water-soluble (gum) and alcohol-soluble (resin) components. Boswellia has been used for thousands of years as an effective natural remedy for various areas. In addition, boswellia (in the form of an extract) has enjoyed great popularity as a dietary supplement for many years and is considered to be very promising. The boswellic acids are considered the most important active ingredients, with research showing that acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) is the most effective of these, so boswellia extracts are usually produced to have a high proportion of AKBA (boswellia naturally consists of only 2-3% AKBA). However, the effect of a boswellia extract is not only dependent on the amount of active ingredients it contains. The bioavailability of these substances is also decisive for how effective they prove to be after oral ingestion. This is due to the fact that the absorption of AKBA is relatively low. An increase in the bioavailability of AKBA also ensures increased efficacy.
The AKBA fraction makes the difference!
As a naturopath, you have to say goodbye to conventional wisdom: Anyone who has dealt with the subject of frankincense knows that boswellic acid is the most important thing and the boswellic acid content is therefore decisive for its effectiveness.
If you are used to evaluating a boswellic acid content of 68 % as good, for example, you will initially turn up your nose at a figure of 20 %, as is the case with Vital's Boswellia-AF.
But if you consider that there are different fractions of boswellic acid, some of which have a good effect, some a medium effect and some no effect at all, and that the most effective of all, namely AKBA, is highly concentrated in Vital's Boswellia AF, you get a completely different impression.
Frankincense - medicine or dietary supplement?
Current research says that frankincense over 400 mg as a daily dose actually works. As dietary supplements are not permitted by law to have an effect, daily recommendations above 399 mg are prohibited, otherwise it is a drug. In this respect, Vitals is doing everything right with Boswellia-AF, the recommended daily dose is "only" 200 mg!
Here is some background knowledge from a nutritionist: The studies on the effectiveness of frankincense were mainly carried out with Sallaki, an ancient Ayurvedic medicine.
It was only measured how many mg of sallaki is necessary to influence complaints such as joints (the typical area of application of sallaki in Ayurveda). And it was concluded that 400 mg or more would be necessary. The more the better, but conversely there is the problem that a smaller amount of frankincense could promote inflammation. So if you want to use frankincense as a medicine, that's fine, but then at least 400 mg daily.
These studies were carried out long before the development of boswellia in the form of AprèsFlex. At that time, no attention was paid to the fact that there were more effective and less effective fractions of boswellic acid.
Boswellia-AF from Vitals contains considerably more of the effective AKBA than Sallaki.
The effect in the body (Attention expert German...)
The main mechanism by which boswellia works is by helping to maintain the normal function of the enzymes 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and 5-lipoxygenase-activating protein (FLAP), with the help of the active ingredient AKBA. 5-LOX contributes to the synthesis of certain leukotrienes (locally acting tissue hormones) from arachidonic acid. Boswellia supports healthy cartilage and normal joint function by maintaining normal 5-LOX and FLAP levels.
AprèsFlex is part of Boswellia-AF, a Vitals product. This is the new name for a high-quality Boswellia extract from the manufacturer Laila Nutra. This extract was formerly known as Aflapin®, which is also the name used in the various scientific publications demonstrating its effectiveness. Laila Nutra is an expert in the development of boswellia extracts that are characterised by high absorption and rapid action. They have already had success with the popular 5-Loxin® extract. However, the producer was of the opinion that the absorption of the boswellia active ingredients could still be optimised.
Laila Nutra developed the AprèsFlex extract, an improved version of their previous 5-Loxin extract, by testing different compositions with the aim of achieving even higher bioavailability. This advanced product contains a Boswellia extract (with 20% AKBA) supplemented with a portion of the non-volatile oils of Boswellia resin. The addition of these natural oils proved to be the best solution for improving the absorption and bioavailability of AKBA. Although the proportion of AKBA in AprèsFlex is lower compared to 5-Loxin (20% versus 30%), comparative studies show that AprèsFlex is up to 50% more absorbable and more effective.

E-Mail: kundendienst@vitals.eu.
